Silesian Museum of Katowice

The museum was established on January 23, 1929 by a resolution of the Silesian Sejm, which operated until the outbreak of World War II in 1939, and later re-established in 1984. In 2006 it was entered in the National Register of Museums, and in 2015 the institution obtained its new, target seat in a modern complex of buildings in Katowice at ul. Tadeusza Dobrowolskiego 1.
Committed to the heritage of the region, the Silesian Museum is committed to the creation of a space for a dialog with the past and the achievements of the present in order to deepen the knowledge of Silesia, Poland and Europe. The museum’s collection includes, among others, works by Józef Chełmoński, Artur Grottger, Tadeusz Makowski, Jacek Malczewski, Jan Matejko, Józef Mehoffer and Stanisław Wyspiański.
